THE INNOVATION:

Empowering plus-size people by providing them with employment and creating a supportive environment inclusive of dance, etiquette, cooking and make-up classes that caters to both their physical and psychological needs. Initiating an in-house campaign against rampant discrimination against plus size people and negative stereotype in advertisement and media.

BRIEF BACKGROUND:

Big is Gorgeous was founded by Ms Sharmilah Begum. Once a plus-size girl at 90 kg, she had health problems. But now at 79kg, Ms Shamilah feels more energetic, and is even giving belly dancing lessons and running a support group for overweight women at her studio and boutique. Now, she wants to teach plus-size women how they can feel good about themselves and bring out their inner beauty.
